Intro
With sensor-based automations, users can set up automatic actions triggered by a selected sensor reporting a specific state. An example could be: “If there is movement in the hallway and the mode is Sleep, turn on two lights, and turn them off after 15 minutes”.
Creating an automation
-
Go to settings → automation → + automation → sensor.
-
Choose the type of sensor that will trigger the automation:
- motion
- door
- window
- temp
- humid
Note: One of the sensors available is wattage, choosing which results in creating a consumption-based automation.
- Select a specific sensor from the devices available.
- Select what the sensor should report.
- Select the modes the automation will function in. The automation will not be triggered in the modes which are not selected. Then press next step.
- Select what to trigger, either mode or device → choose what should happen → next step → save.
